In 1997, I moved to Austin, Texas. I was already a Billy Joe Shaver fan and as a guitar player I thought Eddy Shaver walked on water. I found out that Shaver was going to be playing at Stubb’s BBQ in Austin, so I went to buy tickets in advance. I assumed they were playing Stubb’s Outdoors on the big stage. Turns out they were playing on the small stage inside. On the night of the show there were about 150 people there and Shaver put on an awesome show. I stood right in front of Eddy and was mesmerized by his playing. To this day, I think Eddy was one of the greatest players I ever saw play guitar. For the next three years I went to as many shows as possible. I got to talk to Eddy and Billy Joe many times and they were both very kind. I don’t know how many shows I saw, but it was bunch. On December 17th, 2000 I saw Eddy play at Saxon Pub in Austin. I talked to him after and then he died on New Year’s Eve that year.
I wanted to build this site so there was a place that people could go and find all about Eddy because he deserves it. There will never be anything for sale here. The only motive is to keep Eddy’s name alive so people can find out about him and enjoy his music.
